Today I heard from Dave Hough, a partner in Mountain Streams and Trails Outfitters on the Cheat and Upper Yough. He has completed a land swap with Allegheny Wood Products that trades the uphill half of his property at the top of the Cheat Canyon for land at Jenkinsburg between the county road and the Cheat and Big Sandy Rivers. This is the takeout of both the Cheat and Big Sandy Rivers. This is the result of a year-long effort and more that a year of negotiations with the company. Thank you Dave and MS&T!!

Dave is committed to maintaining public access to the river, and he will be working closely with American Whitewater and Friends of Cheat during the next few months. Cleanup and improvements will be done slowly over the coming months, and we will be looking for donations and volunteer help from you. We are also interested in sources of government and foundation money. Our hope is to make this a case study in how commercial and private paddlers can work together turn an eyesore into a source of pride for everyone. Stay tuned!
