You can find pictures of the beginning of the process, and some info about how they are doing it, at the bottom of the Potomac Paddlers News Page.

These are the last days for the Dry Fork of the Fish Ladder. WOOHOO!!!

Hopefully they can do it without creating strainers in other partst of the fishladder.

Yeah, I doubt that. For now they are clearing the wood, but when the water starts to flow over the top or through the jam, I imagine they will just hook up winches and tug until the whole thing breaks up. So expect to see strainers between the 3rd and 4th slide and at the bottom of 4. :(

I took more photos this morning and will take some more this afternoon. I will keep checking, in the hope that I will be there to catch some shots / video of the break up! :)

man, this is like the end of some sort of era.... it will definitally be interesting to see where all that stuff winds up. the dogleg at the bottom of the fourth works like a drain trap, so that's my guess, hopefully it won't get hung up in the fourth! at any rate, with spring right around the corner, if they get the logjam removed there should be some high water along fairly soon to clean it out. Wonder how it will all affect the back channel, I barely remember what it was like with the water coming in from river left. hey and jim, while you're out there, ask those guys if they'll clear that monstrosity above the bridge channel as well ;)

Well sort of. :p

The Dry Fork is gone replaced with the Damp Fork. More info and pictures are at the bottom of the Potomac Paddlers News Page.

we tried to take enough pictures to give you hair boaters an idea of whether it is runnable. There are some strainers and some may be submerged and it may be a little shallow. You will have to decide for your selves. Let us know, goodluck, and have fun! ;)
