Bill, I feel your pain, Portage can be a frustrating spot. Here are a couple of good ways of seeting up for loop in the right spot at Portage.. One is to establish a controlled side surf with your boat pointing towards the middle of the river. Once your in that side surf back your boat out to the surfers right shoulder, as you back out once your stern hits that shoulder it should start turning your bow upstream. Once your bow is turned upstream plug it in before the hole shoots your boat over surfers left. Backing up and straightening your boat should be a fairly controlled and sloe process. If you back up to fast you'll probably back right off the hole. Another way is to carve over to the surfers right shoulder and aggresively cut back so your on top of the pile lined up straight and once again plug it before you get kicked over to the surfers left. You might to carve back and forth a few times before your set up right. Kind of hard to explain over the computer, but I hope this helps.

Thanks Mike. That helps. I was out there today before the rain, raised the level above 4. It's easier at lower levels (3.95 was sweet).

I think after reading your advice the major thing I need to work on now is a more aggressive, well aligned plug. Really got for an aggressive plug downward when the time is right.

Then I can get a bigger, straighter pop and start hitting more, better loops!

Happy Holidays!
