This is a semi-fun alternative if you are tired of MD chute at 3.4 to 3.6.

Just downriver from O-Deck is a pretty decent and challenging wave/hole. At 3.4 it's more of a hole. It is on river right located directly across from Portage hole. There is another wave about 5 yards from Portage, but this one is situated more in the middle of the channel and closer to the Virginia shore line.

I've hit this wave many times in the past, but the lack of eddy service makes it a "one and done" type of river feature. It's pretty easy to temporarily secure a throw rope on the VA rocks and let the rope flow into the eddy below the wave. You can pull yourself a few yards upriver, bust a hard move towards the wave, and bam! you are back on the wave rippin' it up again.

This is a pretty dynamic wave/hole and it looks like it's got potential for bigger and more complex freestyle moves. I'm a hack, so I couldn't do much more than try to hang on and have a surf. From trough to top of this wave feels pretty big, so it's worth checking this feature out.

Just be careful with the throw rope, it's a bit tricky the first few times pulling yourself upriver..."Enjoy, my good friends, enjoy!" 5 bucks to the first person that can identify that last quote...

Dan, that wave is pretty cool although I've never been in it in a playboat. If this is the Dan I think it is tell Gareth I said hi.
