Digital Video cameras?

I'm finally to the point where borrowing doesn't work anymore. I must break down and buy my own digital camcorder. Can anyone give me some advise on the best cameras in the $400.00 range?

i have a great camera with 12x optical zoom which is just right for those far away shots....it cost me $500 but later i have seen it for 450.

I got a canon ZR45 that has an 18x zoom on ebay for $150 and it was pretty close to brand new. -Luke
